Eventually Tanis started to wake up for the day. He didn't look forward to having to meet other people, no matter what species they were. As he sat on the couch and tried not to keep running his hands over his new scales, he started to alternate between being freezing cold and shivering, and being way too hot and feeling his hair get damp with sweat again.
Ira was keeping a pretty close eye on him, and noticed his discomfort. From his room he brought out a jacket that zipped up. "Here, this should help. If you need anything or feel uncomfortable just let me know." He smiled a little bit, trying to cheer Tanis up- or at least let him know he

Rabbit Learns About Mortality
In the Beginning Times, before the animal spirits went into hiding, Rabbit was the most selfish being that had ever lived. He did not see humans as children left behind by the Creative Spirit to be raised and taught to find their place in the world. He saw a source of entertainment and a means to get out of working for his living. There was nothing he liked better than showing up at a village to demand feasts and dances be held in his honor. As one of the First Ones, he believed it was the duty of mortals to serve him.
Each passing generation of humans grew less tolerant of his antics. They saw how hard the other animal spirits worked, and d
He knew that stepping into the tent of the Roma was a dangerous thing. While both were outcasts to the society around them, that didn't mean they got along very well. Still, he had long wanted to get even a simple reading and this clan had looked like the best way to go.
A smile crossed his lips as he sat down, letting his mismatched eyes take in the vision before him. "You're not what one expects when visiting a Roma Psychic." He mumbled, crossing his long legs and leaning back in the chair.
The man who looked back was a little shorter, long almost tan-ish hair cascading down his back. "Travelers and Roma are different." He explained
"Come on over and try your luck!" The carnie shouted, somehow making his voice heard over the countless other's trying to sell their games. "Just roll the dice, get three or more of a kind and win a prize!"
Mum pulled on my hand but by the time she turned to scold me, I'd put on my best puppy-dog face while pointing to the dice game.
Her mouth opened and closed a couple of times with arguments rising and dying in her mind. Finally she just decided to let me go 'try my luck'.
Sighing in defeat, she let me drag her towards the stall and the moustached man.
"Six bucks a go!" He continued shouting even when we stood before him. "Roll three of
Tanis was asleep as Ira considered his next move.
There was no way he was going to kick the kid out. It was the middle of winter. There were some denizens that felt right at home in the cold and snow, but definitely not naga. Ira just confirmed in his mind that Tanis was going to stay until it got warmer, at the very least. But he knew he couldn't help this kid on his own.
He considered actually calling his brother. Naga tended to winter together, in small groups of four or five since they didn't get out much in the cold. Ira had been planning on inviting Luke, and of course Savir, anyway... Surely they wouldn't mind having someone extra t
Tanis watched the single scale on his leg like it would leap up and bite him. It was shiny, and to him almost looked like polished and glazed ceramic. The skin around the deep green scale sudden itched like a thousand mosquito bites and he tore at it with his fingernails until it was torn out, leaving a tiny bloody patch, but it was soon replaced with an identical scale and joined with others of the same green or dark brown. He didn't realize he was leaving bleeding marks in his legs until Ira grabbed his hands and made him hold still.
He looked up at Ira, fear obvious in his eyes. Ira only looked calm and in control, although he was hiding

5. Tanis starts to change...
"Seems like you'll be staying here."
Tanis felt himself sort of go numb... he had no idea to describe how he felt. Homesickness was one of the main things that struck him, but that wasn't all of it. There was also fear... What would it be like to change in to something else? What would he be? Would it hurt? He tried to keep his breathing even as he let Ira help him sit down on one of the bar stools.
"Tanis? Tanis, are you ok?" Ira looked at him, concerned.
"I... I don't know..." He stared at the counter in front of him, not really focusing. He clenched his jaw, trying not to feel the split in his tongue and there was suddenly a biting pain
